After spending Christmas in Phnom Penh, we decided to take advantage of a week-long break from language school to take some time off. We caught a bus headed south to Kampot and from there went down to Kep. Kampot is about 2.5-3 hours south of Phnom Penh and is a sleepy town situated right on the river. We spent a couple of days relaxing by the river, reading or playing cards in coffee shops and exploring the town's crumbling colonial architecture.

One evening we took a firefly watching boat trip down the river. After about an hour on the boat, our captain slowed the boat and turned off all of the lights. He invited the two of us up to the front of the boat, and we practiced what little Khmer we know while watching the fireflies blink in sync under a sky full of stars. It was one of our favorite parts of the trip.

Many lovely sunsets on our trip!
